The incident was first reported as a two-car collision although Cleveland Police said on March 31 that four vehicles were involved and confirmed five men have been questioned over what happened.

Three, aged 19, 20 and 25, were all taken into custody in the hours after the incident while a 24-year-old and 26-year-old were later arrested.

All five have been released under investigation and an inquest into the pensioner’s death is expected to open shortly at Teesside Coroners’ Court.
