Gareth Southgate’s side left it late at Wembley to secure their quarter-final place this evening - with Raheem Sterling not opening the scoring until the 75th minute - and survived a scare mere moments later when Germany’s Thomas Muller steered his shot wide with just Jordan Pickford in the England goal to beat.
Captain Harry Kane put the result beyond doubt with less than five minutes of the 90 remaining, when he nodded home Luke Shaw’s cross to send fans at home and in pubs and bars across the country into a frenzy.
Echo photographer Frank Reid was at the Victoria Gardens in Hendon to capture the excitement.
