We asked our readers to share messages to the NHS staff who were there for them during difficult times, providing care and support.

The book was released last month and features contributions from celebrities including Ed Sheeran, Stephen Fry and David Tennant.

Trudy McDougall Alexander: “The NHS have continued to provide my father’s cancer treatment all throughout lockdown whilst I know so many were stopped.

"We are so grateful that his immunotherapy was never stopped and continued as normal.

"We are eternally grateful to the NHS for this & to their fabulous staff who have continued to work throughout. Thank you NHS.”

Kelly Ken Davison: “I had a bad time during Covid and ended up having a major operation. I can't thank Sunderland Royal Hospital enough.”

Roger Whittle: “In February this year I was diagnosed with both bowel and bladder cancer, with the NHS staff being absolutely brilliant!

"On the day of lockdown I was operated on by a wonderful lady consultant at Cramlington ENSEC hospital.

"After the op I was looked after by so many wonderful staff for five days with various ups & downs, but totally no problems as far as the staff were concerned.

"After being discharged, more brilliant attention from the district nurses, followed by continuous care by my local GP surgery staff. I couldn’t be more happy with all NHS involved. Thank you ALL!”

Joyce Lumsden: “RVI saved my granddaughter’s life. Forever grateful to them.”

Paul Glenwright: “They helped me last March when aged 40 I suffered a heart attack at home, thank you NHS.”
