Leighton Barrass has been found guilty of murder and Ally Gordon has been found guilty of manslaughter after the beloved teenager was killed on a night out in Sunderland city centre in the early hours of Sunday, February 24.

During the three-week trial at Newcastle Crown Court, jurors heard Connor was stabbed five times after stepping forward and punching Barrass who had returned to the back lane brandishing a knife and threatening innocent people following an earlier altercation with Connor’s friend.

Now, as the pair are found guilty of killing the teenager, police have released the mugshots taken when they were arrested.

The jury heard Barrass, of Hartside Square, got into a row with Connor’s friend, Stephen Nunn, who had punched him in the face in an alley off Park Lane when the killer tried to sell drugs and steal from him.

The prosecution say what Barrass did next was an ‘act of calculated revenge’.

Witnesses say baby-faced killer Barrass, who turned 20 just days before the murder, waved the knife in the air saying he would ‘stab any one of you’.

The court heard Gordon, who was 19 at the time, was Barrass’s ‘faithful sidekick’ and say he encouraged and assisted the 20-year-old to commit murder.

The prosecution say Barrass had returned ‘humiliated’ after being punched by Mr Nunn and Connor, who had been out drinking with friends, had ‘bravely’ stepped forward and punched Barrass who was brandishing a knife.

In the scuffle that unfolded, Connor Brown, who worked as a receptionist at Happy House GP surgery, was stabbed five times – with the fatal wound entering his heart.

CCTV footage from the alleyway shows Connor and Barrass falling to the ground as Gordon kicks Connor.

Footage from CCTV cameras played in court shows Gordon kicking Connor as he falls to the floor during the attack.

Following deliberations which lasted around four hours, 12 jurors unanimously found Barrass guilty of murder and Gordon guilty of manslaughter and of possessing a bladed weapon.

The pair are expected to be sentenced tomorrow.
