Dressed in her World War Two Land Girl outfit, seven-year-old Blossom Todd, of Dwyer Crescent, in Ryhope, brought a smile to the faces of those who were celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day at home alone on Friday, May 8.
The St Patrick’s School pupil stocked up her doll’s pram with 30 VE Day food packages and gift bags to drop off at the doorsteps of Burden Road residents.

Since schools closed and the lockdown measures were introduced in March, the thoughtful family have cooked and delivered hundreds of hot meals to their neighbours on the street.
Blossom even donated the money she had been saving up for a dance competition in Blackpool to help fund the meals after worrying about what they were all going to eat.
The residents have begun to look forward to visits from their little ‘ray of sunshine’ every other day, with some writing letters to the family expressing their gratitude and saying they “couldn’t have got through this terrible time” without their kindness.

“She delivered decorations for them on Thursday and they all had them displayed in their windows.
“It couldn’t have been more perfect, we are so proud of her.”
Blossom - whose older brother is currently in the RAF – even gave a salute at the bottom of each garden.

“It’s brought a little bit of happiness and it means that VE Day didn’t just passed them by.
“Hopefully one year on everyone will all be celebrating together.”
