With no travel and the stay at home restrictions, it gave people the chance to truly appreciate what’s on their doorsteps, from uncovering hidden corners of Sunderland to exploring parks we’d never had the chance to appreciate when stuck in the 9-5 of the rat race.
To mark a year since Lockdown was announced, on March 23, 2020, we’ve rounded up some of the photos shared with us on our Instagram account of people’s daily walks and activities.
5. Lighting up the city
With the city then in Tier 3, the illuminations were left on for longer last Christmas - and they provided some cheer on gloomy nights. Thanks to @lewisgrahamphotography for this shot. Photo: Lewis Graham Photography
6. Swanning about
Wildlife spotting brightened up our daily walks. A lone swan was spotted looking serene at Herrington Country Park by @jb090p Photo: JB 090 Photograpy Northeast
7. Thanking the frontline heroes
In the first Lockdown, messages of thanks for the NHS sprang up around the city, capturing the mood of the country as we slowly got used to life in a pandemic. Photo: Submitted
8. Majestic shots
Some spectacular shots have been captured of the renovated Hylton Castle which is due to open soon as a visitor attraction. Thanks to @joshbewickphotography for this majestic image of the city's only castle. Photo: Josh Bewick Photography
