From a major new visitor attraction to new housing, bars and the game-changing TV and film studios, here’s a round up of some of the big developments heading our way.

17. Nile + Villiers community works
We should see works start to take shape on the Nile + Villiers community in Sunniside, which has been approved. It will see 75 new homes at a site bound by High Street West, Villiers Street, Coronation Street and Nile Street. Areas, including the High Street West car park, have already been cordoned off to make way for the changes. | TOWN

18. Former Mason Amusements, Holmeside
Works will begin on the former Mason Amusements in Holmeside in early 2025. Thought to date back to the turn of the last century, it was formerly the Northumbria Printing Works and city developer Darryl Cullerton will be bringing the name back after buying the site. He'll be creating eight apartments across the two upper floors and two ground floor level retail units. | Sunderland Echo

19. Corner of Mary Street, city centre
Easter should see the opening of the development on the corner of Mary Street and Stockton Road. Local property developer Darryl Cullerton is restoring the block into four boutique apartments and four commercial units, working with Gerard McElvenny of Pulp Studios Design House, who worked on the award-winning design for The Keel Tavern in Keel Square. | Sunderland Echo
20. Chester Gate, Pennywell
The Chester Gate development of 118 new homes has been created on the Pennywell Estate with the aim of providing high quality new housing for Sunderland. The first phase will be completed in early 2025. | Sunderland Echo
