10 Washington care home staff taking on virtual Mount Snowdon challenge by climbing over 4000 stairs to raise cash

Staff at a Washington care home are setting themselves a mammoth challenge of climbing over 4000 stairs, the equivalent of walking up Mount Snowdon, as they look to raise money to help improve the lives of residents.

Staff at St Martin’s Washington Manor Care Home are hoping to raise £1000 in the virtual Mount Snowdon challenge.

Staff at St Martin’s Washington Manor Care Home are hoping to raise £1000 which will go towards outdoor furniture for residents, helping them spend more time outside in the coming summer months.

The challenge will see 10 members of staff take part in a virtual climb of the highest mountain in Wales, Mount Snowdon, by climbing a total of 4610 stairs.

Not only will it help improve the lives of residents, but it is also being used to promote wellbeing amongst the staff, who have faced a difficult year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Manager of St Martin’s Washington Manor Care Home, Wendy Mcintyre, said: “The money would definitely make a big difference to the residents lives and give them the chance to spend more time outside and enjoy that fresh air.

“It’s also about promoting wellbeing for staff who have had a really tough year. It’s nice to have something positive to focus on.”

Money raised from the virtual climb will allow St Martin’s residents to spend more time outside and enjoy the sunny weather as the summer months quickly approach.

St Martins Washington Manor Care home currently houses over 50 residents and provides residential, dementia and respite care for the elderly.
