Wearside offers an array of fun events to take part in in 2026 with both Sunderland and Durham hosting fun runs, bike rides and walks which the whole family can enjoy.
In Sunderland, the popular BIG events are back for 2026, with people urged to sign up early .
Councillor Beth Jones, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Tourism at Sunderland City Council, said: “The BIG Events are a brilliant way for people to get active, feel good and enjoy being part of something positive. Last year’s turnout showed just how much residents value these opportunities, and we want even more people to join us in 2026.
“Being active has huge benefits for both physical and mental health, and these events are designed to make it easy, fun and accessible for everyone. I’d encourage people to sign up early, secure their place and start their fitness journey with us.”
Meanwhile, Durham City will also see its popular city runs return.
If you’re looking for a cycle ride, run, or walk to sign up to to help get you fit this year (2026) then check out these active events.
