Pensioners in Sunderland join fight against homophobia
Residents at Gentoo’s extra care facility, Haddington Vale, gathered to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, IDAHOT, which is a national day used to challenge prejudice, raise awareness and declare zero tolerance for homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
The day started with a talk from the Deputy Director of Gentoo Sunderland, Lucy Malarkey, who discussed how some older people may find it particularly difficult to be open about their gender identity or sexual orientation having grown up in a society where being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) was not welcomed.
