Pedestrian 'seriously injured' in suspected Sunderland hit-and-run
The male victim - thought to be aged in his twenties - was struck by a vehicle in Bramwell Gardens, Hendon, at about 1.30pm today.
Emergency services, including eight police cars, the force helicopter and paramedics rushed to the scene.
The road was cordoned off for two hours while accident investigators carried out their enquiries.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, told the Echo they had heard a bang and went outside to find a man lying in the road.
The resident said cars often come around that corner at speed.
"It looked really serious," they said. "People were rushing to help.
"He looked in a pretty bad way. I was pretty shocked."
