COMMENT: Wee Jessica is standing tall

She’s barely tall enough to peer over the pile presents, but wee Jessica Willey is standing tall in the eyes of homeless children.

The six-year-old has raised around £500 and will be using the cash to buy Christmas gifts for children in care of the Centre Point charity.

And at the moment, that means 32 children, who are aged from a new born baby to 17, will receive Christmas presents this year.

It’s a fantastic gesture from the youngster, but it’s not her first foray into fundraising.

As we reveal today, this is her third charity drive this year, having previously raised enough money to give NHS and care home staff packed lunches by selling drawings of rainbows and bookmarks.

She even received a Commonwealth Point of Light award for her fundraising work with the Rainbows.

What an inspiration. It’s youngsters like Jennifer who set an example for other youngsters to follow.

As her mum Andrea tells us today: “Jessica is very aware and understands how difficult Covid has made it for some families throughout both lockdowns.

“I’m just blown away by the response that she has had.

"I’m so proud, everyone has been affected by the impact of coronavirus but people are still coming forward to help Jessica. It’s just so kind what she wants to do.”

Jessica is proving a Christmas star shining bright in the community. Long may she twinkle.
