Non-essential shops, alongside personal care premises, such as hairdressers and nail salons, and outdoor hospitality venues will be allowed to reopen from Monday, April 12.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told a Downing Street press conference on Easter Monday (April 5) that the Government was pushing ahead with the next phase of its plan to ease the national restrictions imposed in January.

Many businesses across the country have been closed under lockdown restrictions with some offering take-away services since December.

Sunderland Echo readers have been sharing their support for local businesses across the city and beyond as they prepare to welcome customers back.
