One person treated by paramedics after car overturns on A19

The northbound carriageway was closed for more than an hour after the accident shortly after 5pm yesterday, Saturday, November 21, close to the junction with the A183 Chester Road.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said no other vehicles had been involved and the road had reopened shortly after 6.30pm.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at 5.14pm to a report of a road traffic collision on the A19, near South Hylton.

"We dispatched one resource from our Hazardous Area Rescue Team and treated one person at the scene.”

Closures are also in place elsewhere on the A19 while work is carried out on the upgrade of junctions at Testo’s and Downhill Lane.
