One man hospitalised after collision in Washington

One man has been taken to hospital today after his car crashed into a lamppost near The Galleries in Washington.

Two fire crews from Birtley and Washington were also called to the scene at 12.59 after a silver Opal and a blue Ford Fiesta crashed into each other on the A1231, causing the Fiesta to hit a lamppost.

Crews cut the drivers door off the Fiesta off to release the man who was driving the car and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead complaining of pain in his neck.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they received a call called at 12.44pm to reports of a crash on the A182 junction with the A1231.

A rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene followed by a double ambulance crew just minutes later, which took the injured person to hospital.
