North East girl dies after suspected illegal drug use at club


At around 4.40am, police received a report that an 18-year-old girl had fallen ill at the Warehouse nightclub in the Byker area of Newcastl.
She was taken to hospital by paramedics but her condition deteriorated and she sadly passed away.

Hide AdOfficers have been carrying out enquiries into the incident and it is believed the girl had taken some kind of illegal drug prior to falling ill.
Police want to warn anyone who thinks they may have been at the nightclub last night and who may have taken a substance to go to hospital immediately for treatment and then contact the police.
Chief Inspector Phil McConville said: "The initial police investigation into this young woman's death indicates that she may have taken some kind of drug and had a fatal reaction to the substance.
"We believe it may have been MDMA and we need anyone else who was at this nightclub and who may have taken any drugs to go to hospital immediately and get checked out.

Hide Ad"Enquiries into the woman's death will continue and it is vitally important that anyone who has any information about who supplied the drugs contacts the police immediately.
"We need to establish exactly what the substance was and where it came from in order to prevent anyone else from taking it.
"Drugs are illegal for a reason and we would urge anyone with any information about this tragic incident to contact us immediately."
A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the teenage girl's death and remains in police custody.
