Lucy Staniforth, Rachel Pitman, Kylla Sjoman and Krystle Johnston all featured at the Excelsior Stadium but the Lasses were not able to convert second half pressure into goals.

Fairweather was pleased to give his new signings a run out and praised their contributions, adding: "It's just a case of them settling into the squad.

"As an individual and collectively as a team if we can get that going for the next couple of games then hopefully that will put us in a good place for the start of the season."

Keira Ramshaw had the best chance of the game after just two minutes, failing to make a clean connection with the ball from six yards after some neat build up play and an intelligent

switch of play from new signing Johnston.

Fairweather added: "As the game went on we looked stronger.

"We were much more positive and we were creative which was good.

"We defended well, but we need to keep the ball better and if we are able to do that in and around the final third that would be good.

"And although we had a few players who were missing, the new lasses came in and did well."

The Black Cats continue their pre-season preparations ahead of their WSL1 season, which kicks off against WSL2 Champions Reading Ladies on Saturday, March 26, at Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground at the Hetton Centre (KO 6pm).
