New pictures show scale of damage to fire-hit Sunderland care home as investigation work continues

Six people were taken to hospital following the blaze at The Croft Care Home in Ettrick Grove, Barnes, on Friday, June 26.

And it was confirmed by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) in a statement on Monday, June 29 that the blaze – which was spotted by workmen and began in the roof – was started accidentally.

Members of the public reported seeing both police and fire service vehicles back at the scene between 6am and 7am on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for TWFRS confirmed to the Echo that the latest visit to the site formed part of the investigation, and was ‘routine procedure to rule out deliberate intent’.
