Ten jobs have been created at Conquest Training, which is a division of the Peterlee-based Profound Group.

The new company offers simulated experiences to people who work in confined spaces or at high levels.

The courses are being delivered by a team of trainers who are all former firemen. Conquest has been launched to ensure companies that work within high risk industries receive the best training possible to reduce the chances of their employees being seriously injured or even killed on jobs.

The lead instructor is Ian Dowey, who recently led a team of people on a training exercise on the Transporter Bridge on Teesside.

He said that, before Conquest was launched, there were very few training companies in the region offering courses within high risk disciplines, especially ones that used simulated platforms rather than classroom based training.

Ian added: “It’s the ideal way for them to learn how to respond if they got into difficulty while at work, as currently there is a high rate of fatalities within high risk industries, especially working underground, because of the time it takes to respond effectively.”

Conquest Training, which is based on the South West Industrial Estate in Peterlee, has worked with companies across the region including Condor Products and East Durham College. It also offers training in fire safety where simulated fires are created to demonstrate how to deal with a life threatening situation.

Training can be delivered on or off site.

Steven Ward, managing director of Profound Group, said: “As a group we are always looking to introduce training programmes which will make a real difference to business and industry, and Conquest certainly fits the bill.

“By taking part in one of our real life exercises, employees can get a much better understanding of how to respond in an emergency situation, which could ultimately help save someone’s life.”

Profound Group is based at Bracken Hill Business Park in Peterlee.
