Muddying the waters

Ron Hepplewhite (October 13) in responding to my letter on trade tariffs is trying to muddy the waters by introducing the possibility expulsion of UK citizens in retaliation for the UK imposing trade tariffs on goods from the EU.

My suggestion was that the UK could or even should impose tariffs on imports from the EU in response to the EU imposing tariffs on UK exports.

What would be wrong with that?

Teresa May has already stated that EU citizens already here would be welcome to stay.

Why then would the EU begin the deportation of UK citizens? It does not make sense.

To use Ron Hepplewhite’s own words. Be careful what you wish for.

As for me urging the Government to do everything they can to keep the Nissan plant working. No need. It has already pledged to do so.

Ron Hepplewhite should not be so selective in his reading of reports.
