Motorcyclist loses fight for life after being airlifted from scene of crash with car

A motorcyclist who was airlifted to hospital following a collision with a car has lost his fight for life.

The 37-year-old man, whose identity has still to be revealed, was seriously injured in a collision on A182 Easington-South Hetton road, near East Durham Garden Centre, between his Kawasaki ZX600 bike and a Nissan Note car at around 2.30pm on Monday, June 1.

The car driver, a 74-year-old man, and his passenger, a 72-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

A Durham Police spokeswoman confirmed on Thursday, June 4, that the motorcyclist later died and added: “Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles being driven beforehand.

“They would also like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or the lead up to it.”
