Sunderland-based Hope 4 Kidz – which supports youngsters with a range of special needs – was chosen as the beneficiary for the funds raised at the St Hornets family fun day at the Golden Lion, South Hylton.

Alan William Fernandez, chairman of the Hylton Hornets, said “We have been a recognised MCC for the past few years now, we are also part of the North East Coalition who support our local 81.

“Every year the North East Coalition does various charity work, which we all try to support, so we decided to do our own charity event on ‘St. George’s Day’.

“With so many charities to choose from, we wanted to keep it local. “As our club house is the Golden Lion, we knew they had a hand in helping out Hope 4 Kids. We thought what a brilliant charity it is, also very local to us. So it was an obvious choice to choose Hope 4 Kidz.

“We plan on doing more charity events in the future, and hope more people will see what our local MCC do for our local community.”

A magnificent £1,000 was raised by the Hornets MCC.

Viv Watts, who runs Hope 4 Kidz, said: “It is fantastic that the Hylton Hornets MCC chose Hope 4 Kidz as their beneficiary by raising funds on a family fun day at the Golden Lion as the publican Tania Hallam had supported our charity previously.”
