Metro passengers face problems after services are suspended on section of line

Metro passengers were hit by delays after the service was suspended between Gateshead Stadium and Heworth due to a failed train.

The were no training running in either direction due to the issue.

The service has said trains have started again after the failed train was moved.

A spokesman said: "Trains are running to all destinations but will be subject to delay, they will not be to timetable.

"Thank you your patience during this time."

A spokesman for the service said earlier: "We have ticket acceptance all Go North East buses, Heworth to Monument.

"Heworth - Monument. Trains will run- South Shields - Gateshead Stadium/ South Hylton - Gateshead Stadium/ St James- Gateshead Stadium/Airport - Gateshead Stadium.

"The failed train should be on the move shortly.

"We hope to resume service as soon as possible after this is accomplished."

The service initially said no trains were running between Monument and Heworth stations in either direction.
