Here’s more a look around the new addition which completes the Holiday Inn development, including the all important menu and prices.

1. Nods to history
The name Varo means ‘to launch’ in Italian – a nod to Sunderland’s shipbuilding past. Other local reference points include Roker Lighthouse detailing in the panelling. Meanwhile, a wall of phones behind the bar is inspired by the fact that the first police call box in England was installed in Sunderland in 1923. | Sunderland Echo

2. Community events
The new addition has space for regular meet‑ups, business catch‑ups, book clubs, knitting groups, parent‑and‑baby sessions, creative workshops and more. Shannon Kinghorn, general manager at Varo Lounge, said: "Becoming a genuine part of the community is incredibly important to us, and we can’t wait to meet our neighbours and get involved locally." Local groups looking for a friendly, flexible venue are encouraged to get in touch. | Sunderland Echo
