Man's search for lost keys at Sunderland beach sparks emergency service response

A man who entered the sea whilst searching for lost keys led to an emergency response from coastal rescue teams.

South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team were called to a report of concern for a person who had entered the sea near Roker Rocks, by Marine Walk in Sunderland.

Crews arrived at the scene at around 3.56pm on Saturday, October 17, but on arrival found that the man had left the water and was speaking to police.

Officers from Northumbria Police were satisfied with the man’s explanation that he had been looking for lost keys and teams left the scene.

In all coastal emergencies members of the public should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
