Man taken to hospital after road traffic collision in Hylton Lane

The North East Ambulance Service received reports of a one-vehicle road traffic collision at Hylton Lane just after 12:30pm.

Motorists in the area reported congestion in the hours following the incident, with tailbacks extending as far as North Hylton Road.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said a man had been taken to the Sunderland Royal, having sustained neck injuries. One ambulance was dispatched to the scene of the incident with several emergency service teams said to have been present.

No details regarding the severity of the man’s injuries could be confirmed.

Drivers in the area have been advised to seek alternative routes, with congestion reported along the A19 between Shields Road in Newcastle and Hylton Lane this afternoon.
