A man on the roof of a building in Sunderland city centre sparked a large emergency service call out.

Northumbria Police, the North East Ambulance Service (Neas) and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were called to the corner of Toward Road and Borough Road, close to Mowbray Park, after the man was seen on the top of the building last night, Friday, August 7.

A spokesperson for Neas said: “We were called just before 8pm last night to reports of a man on the roof of the building and we dispatched two of our Hazardous Area Response Teams and were stood down at 11.15pm.”

No one was hurt in the incident.

The fire service said it sent crews from its stations in South Shields and Hebburn, with the teams leaving the scene at 10.46pm.

Northumbria Police has been contacted for further details.
