Man rescued after getting stuck in mud on Sunderland coast
The Coastguard, Northumbria Police and the Sunderland RNLI team were called at 7.15am today after the report came in about the man in difficulty at Hendon.
A spokesman for the RNLI said: "Thankfully as our volunteers were arriving at the scene, it was confirmed that police officers had been able to rescue the man from the mud.

Hide Ad"Once it was confirmed that the casualty and all of the emergency service personnel were clear, our volunteer crew were cleared to return to station."
A spokesman for Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team added: "The team were called out this morning to assist police with a person stuck in the mud at Hendon Promenade.
"As we arrived on scene the person had made it back to safety and was in the care of the police."
