Man pronounced dead after ambulance call-out to Sunderland street

Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service responded to calls of concern for a man on Ryhope Road on Tuesday, June 23.

Emergency services carried out CPR on the man, who was not breathing and was being assisted by members of the public, at the scene.

A police spokesman confirmed to the Echo on Wednesday, June 24 that the man passed away, and that his death is being treated as non-suspicious.

He said: “At 4pm yesterday (Tuesday) we received a report of concern for a man on Ryhope Road, Sunderland.

“It was reported that a man was not breathing and CPR was being carried out.

“Emergency services attended the scene but sadly the man passed away. His family have been notified.

"The man's death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report will be made for the coroner.”

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that two double-crewed ambulances were sent to the incident, alongside a specialist paramedic, after the call of concern came in shortly before 4pm on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for the service added on Wednesday: “We were called at 3.52pm on Tuesday, June 23 to a male patient in cardiac arrest.

“CPR was in progress by a passer-by while the crew were on their way.”

Members of the public reported seeing emergency services vehicles near to Frank’s The Flooring Store, Ryhope Road, on Tuesday at around 5.30pm.
