South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB), Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team, Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were called Graham’s Sand, just south of Trow Rocks.
Six hours after the 2.10pm call out yesterday, Thursday, October 1, the man was helped to safety.

A spokesperson for the SSVLB said: “Tynemouth inshore lifeboat arrived and assisted the person to shore where he was met by our team members.
"He informed us that he had fallen out of the kayak and couldn’t get back in, he was wearing all the correct equipment and carrying the correct safety gear.”
They then helped the man back to his vehicle.
