A man was helped to safety after concerns for his welfare on the Sunderland coast during the early hours of today, Monday, October 26.

Northumbria Police, Sunderland RNLI and Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team were called to an area close to Sunderland Yacht Club at Roker just after 1am.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “Thankfully officers from Northumbria Police were able to locate the man and assist him to safety.
