Man brought to safety after crossing railings on Wearmouth Bridge

A man has been brought to safety by police after crossing the railings on Wearmouth Bridge.

Police were called to the incident in Sunderland at 7.45am, and talked to the man before helping him down.

He is now safe, and being looked after by the emergency services.

Specialist negotiators were also on the bridge to speak to the man.

One lane of the bridge northbound was closed, and traffic was reported to be slow-moving. All lanes have now reopened.
