Man arrested as police investigate rape allegation in Sunderland

Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after receiving a report of a rape at an address in Silksworth on Wednesday, July 18.

The force has confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with their enquiries and say it is believed those involved are known to each other.

A force spokesman said: “Police investigating a report of rape on Wednesday, July 18, at an address in Silksworth have arrested a man in connection with their enquiries.

“At this early stage, it is believed that those involved are known to each other.

“The victim is currently being supported by specialist officers.”
