Man arrested after '˜armed' police response in Sunderland

Residents say armed response officers were called to arrest a man in his Sunderland home.

Police on scene at Goodwood Square, in Grindon, Sunderland.

People living near Goodwood Square, in Grindon, said that armed police and sniffer dogs were in the street at around 5pm yesterday.

One eye witness said that officers forced their way into a flat and led a man wearing a hoody from the scene.

Northumbria Police confirmed that a 53-year-old man had been arrested but did not reveal any further details.

A spokesman said: “Police attended an address in Goodwood Square, in Sunderland at approximately 5pm yesterday following a report of concern.

“Officers arrested a 53-year-old man who has since been bailed pending further inquiries. Inquiries are ongoing.”
