Man airlifted to hospital in critical condition after suffering heart attack

A man was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after suffering a heart attack.

The 38-year-old was resuscitated by Good Samaritan by-standers at the scene near Houghton yesterday morning before medical assistance arrived.

The man was flown to Newcastle’s RVI Hospital in a critical condition by the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) helicopter.

He took ill at 9.40am yesterday morning and was anaesthetised by the GNAAS trauma team before being transported to the hospital.

A Great North Air Ambulance Service spokeman said: “His condition was critical upon arrival.”
