Little bother at Sunderland Unite's protest march

It was just a pleasant protest, without a pick of bother.

The trouble started when the other protest decided to make its way to see UKIP’s new leader Gerard Batten give a speech.

There was obviously going to be trouble when previous UKIP leader Nigel Farage said Gerard Batten needs to tone down the racism in his speeches.

Then one thing led to another and a few UKIP supporters tried to break through the police lines and confront the anti racist protesters.

The police did a marvellous job in containing what could have quite easily turned ugly.

The Justice for Women and Children group also has a legitimate reason to protest, with all the cutbacks by this Conservative Government has put on the police force. There’s no more bobbies patrolling the streets helping the young and old feel safe at night, and a lot of incidents are not getting looked into because of the workload being put upon the remaining officers.
