LISTEN: ‘Amazing’ toddler’s 999 call after mum collapses
Three-year-old Oliver Embleton was just two when mother Nicola collapsed at home in Ellerby Mews in Thornley from low blood pressure.
But he remembered what she had taught him and rang the police, saying “Mummy fell down”, and then stayed on the phone for 20 minutes until emergency services arrived.

Ms Embleton said: “It’s amazing, I can’t imagine what went through his little head but he managed.
“And the police staff were amazing - they kept him on the phone for a good 20 minutes.
“I taught him and his sister to call 999, but he was just two and I didn’t think he would manage.

“So I took the phone and the person down the line said it was the police and at that point I realised Oliver had made the call.”
Mr Walton has since won an award for how he handled the call.
