Letter of the week: 'Does someone have to die at Sunderland junction before something is done?'

Has anyone else noticed when approaching the roundabout on the A19/A182 Chester Road on lots of occasions I pull up stop, lights change to green, just as I am pulling away a car will come through on red.
Is the A182 and A19 roundabout near Hasting Hill as dangerous as our letter writer suggests? Is the A182 and A19 roundabout near Hasting Hill as dangerous as our letter writer suggests?

It happens on all junctions.

I now wait until it’s clear before moving off.

I notice there doesn’t appear to be any cameras on the lights, if there are they don’t work.

It is not a one-off, it happens nearly every time.

I would also point out from the roundabout to Penshaw it seems to be a testing track for speeding, they don’t ease up at all until they get to Shiney Row.

Last week's Letter of the week: Closing Sunderland's public toilets is not the way to goMotorbikes seem to like the straight road for testing for speed.

I would like to know why the police don’t consider putting speed cameras on now and again, even the presence of a patrol car would slow them down.

Just to remind drivers just past the allotments the speed limit is 30mph not 50mph.

Does someone have to be killed before anything is done.
