Elland Road will host a first sell-out crowd in almost six years on Sunday (1.15pm kick-off), when table-toppers Newcastle look to make it eight successive league victories.

Leeds are in good spirits themselves, though, with Garry Monk’s reviving side having taken 22 points from their last 10 matches.

Defender Denton, 21, is relishing the big occasion, and told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “That’s what we have been building up for.

“Obviously in previous years – with the results we maybe haven’t been doing so well but this year you really feel the buzz around Leeds, around the stadium, around the players.

“We feel as though we can get a win.”

Sunday’s clash is the clubs’ first meeting in the league at Elland Road since a 2-2 draw in August 2003, when Alan Shearer grabbed a late equaliser for the Tynesiders.

Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow believes the events of last season – relegation from the Premier League – are driving the Mags players on in the Championship.

“It was a tough lesson to learn for the team,” said Darlow.

“I think it inspired everyone even more now.

“We want to get this club back up, because we feel responsible for going down.”
