Leave our streets alone

The council wishes to inflict a hospital parking management scheme in area such as Aiskell Street, Hawthorn Street and Gilsland Street where we have absolutely no problems with either visitors or workers at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

We are too far away, and the council should check these streets daily to see that there are no parking problems connected to the hospital. Its excuse is that perhaps in the future there could be problems.

In that unlikely case let us wait and see.

Of course, this scheme would provide money for the council, which is in dire straits as Sunderland’s parking operation is running at a £469,000 loss – 349 out of 353 local authorities.

Remember if you do not vote it will be counted as a vote for the scheme. A relevant question, who is going to be counting the votes? The council?
