Jermain Defoe believes he can score in every game for Sunderland
Jermain Defoe believes he can score in EVERY game for Sunderland.
The Black Cats forward is one of the Premier League's form men, having scored three in his last four appearances and eight in total.
His great prowess in front of goal has been a huge factor in the current revival on Wearside, with David Moyes's side winning three of their last four matches to climb to third bottom in the table.
Defoe says he is in the groove and has praised the revitalised Victor Anichebe as well as his gaffer.
"I feel good," he declared. "It's probably the sharpest and strongest I've felt for a long time.
"I feel confident and you believe every chance you get you are going to score.
"At the minute that's my mindset and I just can't wait until the next game.
"I feel that every time I play I'm going to score."
The arrival in the starting XI of Anichebe has been no coincidence to Sunderland's turning of the corner and that of Defoe getting more space and chances.
"Victor uses his body well, he gets shots off, he's aggressive, he's good in the air," explained Defoe in an interview on talkSPORT.
"He gives me more time to think about my movement and be clever. He's helped me."
Defoe gives praise to Moyes, saying the work done on the training pitches at the Academy of Light is reaping rewards, highlighting Saturday's 2-1 win over Leicester at the Stadium of Light..
"The manager is experienced. he's been there and done it," said the ex-England forward.
"We didn't have the best of starts but he was always relaxed in training.
"Every day he's wanted to improve the team, we've worked a lot on possession, he keeps saying 'we need to keep the ball better'.
"In terms of possession, moving the ball about and making chances, Leicester was the best we've played.
"That's come thanks to the training we have done."
The striker was speaking on talkSPORT to raise awareness of the Jermain Defoe Foundation.
He launched it in 2013 to support homeless, abused and vulnerable young people in his family’s home country of St Lucia.
