His big summer signing Didier Ndong must sit out his first Premier League match after collecting his fifth booking in the 3-0 defeat at Swansea.

Ndong, the club’s £13.6million record signing, has started every game following his debut as a late sub against Everton.

Moyes withdrew the midfielder early in the second half, bringing on Jan Kirchhoff, who produced his customary tidy display in the middle.

The German will be the favourite to retain the jersey at the Stadium of Light having come on in the second half of the last two games following his return from a hamstring injury.

Kirchhoff was one of the key figures in last season’s battle for survival.

The 26-year-old is set to be intrumental again and Moyes believes the resilience of the team will not be affected by the disappointing set-back at the Liberty Stadium where they lost to goals by Fernando Llorente (2) and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

“I don’t think so,” he said. “I think they’ve been here before. They’ve experienced it, they’re probably more experienced than me at this.

“They’ve been here several years, it’s not anything too new.”
