Jack Rodwell leaving, Germany knocked out - what a day to be alive: Sunderland fans react on Twitter
and live on Freeview channel 276
The Black Cats came to a settlement with the former England midfielder over the remaining year left on his contract.
Rodwell would have seen his £70,000 a week wages cut by 40% this summer, which was still too hefty for the League One side, and the two parties have come to an agreement which will see the player leave on a free transfer.

Hide AdSunderland fans took to Twitter to celebrate on the same day that Germany were knocked out of the World Cup after a 2-0 defeat against South Korea. Here's a selection of their comments:
@davidbell373: Rodwell leaving, Germany getting knocked out. What a day to be alive
@christoph_21: Jack Rodwell was an #SAFC player for 1,422 days. Conservative estimate (ignoring bonuses and image rights) suggests he took home c. £14.2m in wages. The club spent £10m on his transfer. £24.2m for a player who started in a total of one league win. #SAFC's misrule in a microcosm.
@JamesCopley73: Jack Rodwell has finally left #SAFC. I hereby declare the 27th of June a national holiday.

@brownh1989: I wish Rodwell well wherever he ends up. Take note Cattermole & Honeyman, this is how you orchestrate a move.
@SuperkevFTM: With Rodwell Steele and McNair gone that's going in a good direction to saving a lot of wages. And clearing the decks full stop. Now for the others.
@BiLbOnCfC: can only hope Jack Rodwell steps on an entire box of emptied Lego, every day of the rest of his life
