Inquest opened into death of Sunderland man found near railway line

An inquest has been opened into the death of a man who was found dead in Sunderland last weekend.

The body of Stuart Martin Brown, 51, was discovered near to the railway tracks in Ryhope Road, in Grangetown, on Saturday morning.

At the city’s coroner’s court, assistant coroner Karin Welsh formally opened a hearing into Mr Brown’s death.

The civil engineer lived in Ouseburn Close, in Ryhope, the hearing was told.

Ms Welsh said: “On December 9, Mr Brown left his home address while his wife was out and sadly the next morning a body was found adjacent to Saint Nazaire Way in Sunderland.

“Police officers attended and a man was identified as Mr Brown.”

Ms Welsh added that a post-mortem examination had been carried out on Mr Brown’s body and that a report is being prepared.

She then adjourned the hearing until Tuesday, January 24, at 10am.
