Injured pensioner taken to hospital after Sunderland crash remains 'critical but stable' as investigation goes on

A woman rushed to hospital in the aftermath of a collision in a Sunderland street remains in a critical but stable condition, police say.

Emergency services attended Doxford Park Way in the city on Tuesday, February 4 following reports of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, who was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary by the North East Ambulance Service.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman confirmed to the Echo on Thursday, February 6 that the injured woman, who is 71, remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Inquiries into the collision are ongoing, with police continuing to appeal for dash-cam footage and information from members of the public who may have been in the area at the time.

The incident was called in at around 5.45pm on Tuesday.
