Regarded as the father of Afrobeats, 2Baba, also known as 2Face, performed to a huge crowd at Elysium nightclub in Green Terrace over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The celebrated Nigerian singer/songwriter, producer and entrepreneur has millions of fans around the world and Sunderland audiences got the chance to dance the night away with the star thanks to local promoter and DJ Stanley Uyabeme.
Stanley, who performs as DJ Banko, runs an increasingly popular Afrobeats club night, which takes place once a month at Elysium - and he managed to secure a performance from 2Baba himself.
With his sets, DJ Banko, who works closely with Sunderland Music City, aims to bring communities together while showcasing the energy and global influence of African music.
He said: “This wasn’t just a party. It was a whole experience. Sunderland showed up, the energy was unmatched, and the legend 2Baba gave us a night to remember.Thank you, Sunderland.”
