Impressed by magnificent Northern Spire Bridge

I have returned from a well deserved holiday, usually it is the sight of Penshaw Monument which we look out for when nearing to home, but what a wonderful sight to return to the magnificent Northern Spire which is now open.

Congratulations to Sunderland City Council, as in recent weeks Sunderland has certainly been put on the map, very impressively, with the event of the Tall Ships, Air Show, and then the opening of the Northern Spire Bridge.

Our river and waters died when the shipyards closed, but the North Spire has brought our tired river back to life again, with the added well designed roads on both sides of the river.

Usually there are negative, judgemental comments being fired at Sunderland Councillors, but we should give credit where it is due. Well done to everyone involved, including members of the public who were given the opportunity to choose such a fitting name for our new bridge.

Further congratulations to Sunderland City Councillors for paying tribute, and naming two approach roads after two prominent well deserved local people, Sir Tom Cowie and the late Councillor Paul Watson, who was leader for many years and played a major role in the dream to develop such an iconic landmark.
