Huge police search in Washington after woman heard screaming in woodland
A woman heard screaming in a wooded area sparked a huge police search on Bank Holiday Monday.
Officers were called to the Horsley Road area of Washington at around 5pm on Monday, May 31, following a report that a woman was heard screaming.
The police helicopter was also deployed to search the area but no one was found to be in distress.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 5pm yesterday (Monday) we were contacted by a member of the public who reported hearing a woman screaming in a wooded area in the Horsley Road area of Washington.
“Police assisted by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) carried out a thorough search of the area but nobody was found to be in distress.
“Officers are satisfied that the report was made in good faith.
