Houses in Sunderland and Newcastle searched as part of shooting investigation

Officers have continued to carry out their investigations throughout the weekend after a window was shot at on Monday, February 29, at an address in Edgmond Court in Hollycarrside.

On Sunday, officers carried out search warrants at four houses, one in Sunderland and three in Newcastle, and a number of mobile phones were seized by officers.

Police also uplifted a vehicle as part of their inquiries.

Acting Chief Inspector Steve Pescod said: "This remains a very active enquiry into the incident in Hollycarrside and associated criminal activity.

"We want to make sure those involved are aware that we take this type of behaviour very seriously and we are committed to doing all we can to find those responsible.

"This level of police activity will be sustained as long as we need to.

"We want to reassure the community that we are taking necessary steps to tackle this issue effectively.

The 28 year-old man who was arrested on Saturday, March 5, has been bailed pending further inquiries.

During the inquiry so far 20 people have been arrested and of these, three people have been charged with offences.
