The competition took place between the Rotary Club Round Table and past Round Tablers 41 Club. The trophy was named after the late, local, popular butcher who at various times was a member of all three clubs. the winner was Alan Dickinson, who retaining the trophy and champagne prize and who has also been a member of all three clubs. Colin Hill, from the Rotary Club, was runner-up and received a consolation bottle of wine.

Well know trio The 3 Wise Men”will be presenting Delightful Music at Houghton Older People’s Enterprise meeting in the Methodist Church hall at 1pm on Thursday.

The next Ecumenical Prayer breakfast by Churches Together in Houghton will be in the Bethany Christian Centre on Hetton Road from 8am to 9.30am on Saturday.All denominations are most welcome.

The next monthly craft fair will be in the Welfare Hall of the sports complex from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. Admission will be free and light refreshments will be available.

The Sunderland Group of the Ramblers’ Association will be walking from Belmont, meeting for the 10am bus on Wednesday, February 24, outside St Michael’s Parish Church, and bring your bus pass if applicable. There are also car parks available near the Belmont Leisure Centre.

Speaker at the monthly Inner Wheel meeting in Rainton Meadows Information Centre was Janet Maitland with an illustrated talk on Teaching hairdressing in India.

East Rainton Friendship Club held it annual meeting in Hetton Community Hall and all officers and committee were re-elected, with thanks for their work on behalf of the club. Principles are Mrs Tate, president, and Mrs Knightly, secretary. Proposals were discussed for the club summer outing and the evening rounded off with two short quizzes on topical subjects.
